Maison de la Paix

2003

architectural competition

Submitting in invited competition for the European House of Peace in Geneva, Lindsay collaborated with architect Professor Stefan Ochs and artist Tue Greenfort in creating an iconic and vivid proposal.

Façades of flowers seek to de-escalate anxiety in inhabitants and observers by counterpointing the seriousness of the Maison's work toward peace while emphasising its goal.

The upper levels of the Maison, planned to house rows of diplomats and clerical bureaucrats, are designed in the form of an organic ascending spiral. The design team playfully asserts that this organisation also supports the building's projected end use as a spiral carpark, once the work has been done and peace truly and finally established.
